What is Sensu ?

Sensu is the tool to use to send wind by hand.

Several slim frameworks are fixed in one point.

When I use it, I widen it.

A Japanese paper is usually put on the rib.

The part which paper was put on when I widen it becomes the face of fan of steps.

I can put it compactly by folding it.

It is, so to speak, a folding done round fan.

History

Formation is much earlier, and, with a folding fan and the round fan, a record used in China of B.C. has a round fan. In addition, there is the figure where the attendant who raised a huge feather round fan beside King needs a samurai to an ancient Egyptian fresco.

In this way it was an existing old thing, and the round fan was transmitted to Japan at the time in the seventh century from civilization origin time, but the times went down the idea that I folded a round fan and did to a convenient folding fan for carrying much more, and it was invented in Japan at the time in the eighth century. An idea of a folding fan bundles up a narrow strip of wood with message for the another view, and open a hole in one end, and it is assumed that the thing which I tied with strings is the origin.

The folding fan (a fan) was used as not only the role that I asked but also courtesy and an exchange of presents, a tool of the communication in the days of peace from the time. I write a 31-syllable Japanese poem and give it it, and what I pick up a flower and gave it is written to The Tale of Genji many literary works and history book to be concrete.

It was interpreted as a thing same as a sword with the samurai, and it was respected.

It was exported to a continent in the times of north Soong.

It was prevalent as a tool of communication of a woman of an upper class very much so that the advantage that I could fold compactly was high, and a folding fan invented in Japan was evaluated and it was exported to the West via China in Great Navigation Age and accomplished original development, and the shop which treated a fan in Paris in the 17th century counted 150.

To the thing which developed in Europe, there are the Hiroshi fans which knit a feather fan and a lace.

There is the famous talk that Edison uses the bone of a bamboo folding fan for the filament of the incandescent electric lamp, and succeeded.
